Second Epistle of St. Peter, chapter 2
interpretation, meaning, commentary, explanation
(1) But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
False teachers appeared very quickly in Christianity. Already during the lifetime of the apostles they created splits in local churches, introduced false teachings, deceiving followers. The author of the letter, probably Peter, warns us against them. How to know them? We are talking about pernicious teachings, that is, teachings that, instead of converting the sinner, will actually cause him to depart from the teachings of the Bible. We will know some of them by the fact that they will deny the Lord Jesus and all those religious creeds that belittle the role of Jesus in our salvation.
