Earth - how old is it according to Scripture
Many people, including those who profess Christianity, do not believe that the end of the world will happen in their lifetime. They believe that it is so distant that sooner people will colonize other planets before Jesus comes again to earth. Is this a misconception?
God has made it clear to us that the end of this world will come, but He has not announced when exactly it will happen. He has, however, given us clues by which we will know that it is imminent.
God has made it clear to us that the end of this world will come, but He has not announced when exactly it will happen. He has, however, given us clues by which we will know that it is imminent.
After the revelations in the Bible and the statements of Jesus, we can conclude that this time is certainly not as far away as many people think. We are also warned that the apocalypse will come so soon that humanity will be surprised. However, those who see the signs will be prepared.
Life on earth lasts less than 6,000 years, this can be read by checking the life expectancy of Adam and Eve and the descendants of their children, up to the time of Jesus. According to the Jewish calendar, the earth is less than 5,800 years old. Other calculations indicate 6,000 years.
It wasn't until about 1,600 years after Adam's creation that there was a worldwide flood, which took the lives of almost all the people on earth. As you can see, God didn't wait a few thousand years for the earthlings to come to their senses, He knew they wouldn't have done it anyway. Roughly 2,400 years later, God Himself descends to earth in the form of Jesus, only 4,000 years after the creation of the earth. Again, we see that the elapsed period is not that long at all. More than 2,000 years have passed since then, or a total of about 6,000 years since Adam and Eve. It is worth noting that God created the earth 6 days, and rested on the seventh. We can compare this to 6,000 years since the creation of the earth and 1,000 years of darkness to reign on it.
John 20.1-5 "[1] And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. [2] And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, [3] And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. [4] And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. [5] But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection."
Insensitivity is on the rise in today's world. People live side by side, and often don't even know each other. Violence is growing to almost unimaginable proportions. Entire cities are overrun by gangs, exploiting the local population. Bestial murders no longer shock as they once did, and we are slowly getting used to the constant violence that surrounds us. Never before in the history of the world have there been so many satanists, staunch opponents of God and satanic cults. Every day there are more and more of the spirit callers and false miracle workers that the Bible warns us about.
The cataclysms haunting the earth are intensifying every year. Record numbers of hurricanes, earthquakes and other elements that man cannot cope with are being recorded. All these signs are certainly not accidental and are meant to warn us that the second coming of Jesus is closer than we think.
Apocalypse occurs when Earth is 6,000 years old
Finally, two of the many texts foreshadowing the coming apocalypse.
Luke 21 "[1] And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. [2] And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites. [3] And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all: [4] For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had. [5] And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said, [6] As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. [7] And they asked him, saying, Master, but when shall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass? [8] And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. [9] But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. [10] Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: [11] And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. [12] But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. [13] And it shall turn to you for a testimony. [14] Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: [15] For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. [16] And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and brethren, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death. [17] And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake. [18] But there shall not an hair of your head perish. [19] In your patience possess ye your souls. [20] And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. [21] Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. [22] For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. [23] But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. [24] And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled. [25] And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; [26] Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. [27] And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. [28] And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. [29] And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; [30] When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand. [31] So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand. [32] Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled. [33] Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. [34] And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. [35] For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. [36] Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. [37] And in the day time he was teaching in the temple; and at night he went out, and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives. [38] And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple, for to hear him."
John 14.6-14 " [6] And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, [7] Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters. [8] And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication. [9] And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, [10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: [11] And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. [12] Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. [13] And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. [14] And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle."
